E-learning | Nutrition and Cancer

Deze e-learning wordt aangeboden in samenwerking met de University of Arizona. De e-learning is al jaren in de VS geaccrediteerd voor 12,25 AMA (Amerikaanse accreditatie) voor alle artsen. De kwaliteit is hoogstaand en er wordt gewerkt met verschillende werkvormen (interactieve casuistiek, quizen en video). De geschatte tijdsinvestering is 12,25 uur. Alle onderdelen zijn Engels, zo ook de toelichting hieronder. Je kunt dit eenvoudig naar het Nederlands vertalen met Google Translate of de vertaalopties in bijvoorbeeld Chrome.

Nutrition and Cancer

Overview
This course covers emerging research in the interplay between nutrition and cancer and offers insights into the role of nutrition in three common cancers: breast, colorectal, and prostate. The course stresses advancements in the understanding of carcinogenesis, individualization of nutrition and cancer treatment, and offers an updated take on the role of nutrition during cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship.

Needs Assessment
The understanding of carcinogenesis and of personalized cancer treatment is changing. With more understanding of the hallmarks of carcinogenesis and the role of genetics in prevention and the development of cancers, it is necessary to introduce learners to the complex interactions between cancer, nutrition, cell metabolism, immunity, inflammation, genetics, epigenetics, and the gut microbiome. This course addresses controversies as well — popular diets used by individuals interested in cancer prevention and recovery — offering guidelines to help determine whether following these diets is in a patient’s best interest. This course presents best evidence-based nutritional recommendations for a variety of cancers, and preventive nutritional strategies.

Overall goal
The goal of this activity is to: provide a review of the current relevant literature about cancer and nutrition; provide practitioners with an understanding of the central role of nutrition in health and healing; provide a scientific basis for the integration of nutrition into the conventional management of cancer; and opportunities to apply information from the literature to interactive clinical scenarios.

Course Objectives

Nutrition & Cancer students will:

• Gain familiarity with the epidemiology of cancer
• Develop an understanding of the impact of socioeconomic, racial, mental health and environmental disparities in cancer care.
• Review hallmarks of carcinogenesis and nutritional factors which impact these hallmarks.
• Review the interaction between genes, epigenetics and nutrition.
• Explore the rationale, evidence, clinical indications, and contraindications for various dietary patterns on cancer risk and in integrative cancer treatment – specifically carbohydrate and caloric restriction, a ketogenic diet and fasting.
• Gain an appreciation for the carcinogenic influence of insulin resistance and develop familiarity with ways to improve insulin sensitivity.
• Evaluate the anti-cancer potential for various dietary phytonutrients and dietary supplements through an analysis of current scientific and clinical evidence.
• Apply nutritional information that is specific to cancer types, namely breast, colorectal and prostate cancers, through a review of summarized clinical evidence and with clinical scenarios, advising virtual patients about nutritional strategies.
• Gain insight into evidenced nutritional and physical activity recommendations used for risk reduction and health optimization in cancer survivors.

Target Audience

This online enduring material educational program is designed for physicians, advanced nurse practitioners, and physician assistants and other health care providers who have an interest in surgical outcomes.

Inschrijving

Je kunt de e-learning online bestellen. Binnen 3 werkdagen ontvang je via de mail de inlogcodes en kun je aan de slag. Bij de afronding van de e-learning ontvang je direct per mail je certificaat. Op het moment van inschrijving heb je 30 dagen om de e-learning af te ronden. Deze periode kan altijd kosteloos met 30 dagen extra worden verlengd.

Accreditatie
De volledige term van de AMA punten is AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, dit is de meest algemeen geaccepteerde vorm van CME punten (Continual Medical Education) , oftewel nascholingspunten voor medisch professionals. Deze punten worden in de VS toegekend aan artsen, verpleegkundigen, apothekers en andere zorgverleners wanneer zij bij- en nascholingen volgen om hun kennis en vaardigheden up-to-date te houden. Afhankelijk van je eigen beroepsvereniging zijn deze punten om te zetten naar Nederlandse accreditatiepunten. Deze aanvraag kun jezelf bij je beroepsvereniging doen. Elke beroepsvereniging behandelt deze aanvraag op eigen wijze.

AVIG: Deze e-learning is voor 12,25 punten  algemeen medische nascholing (AMN), integrale nascholing (IG) of natuurgeneeskunde nascholing (NG) naar keuze bij de AVIG geaccrediteerd.

KNMG: Voor huisartsen, medische specialisten en andere artsen: Ondanks dat deze elearning voor Amerikaanse artsen geaccrediteerd is, heeft de KNMG geen accreditatiepunten toegekend. Wel is het mogelijk -zoals vaker bij internationale scholingen/congressen- om met het Amerikaanse certificaat (12,25 AMA) dat je per mail ontvangt, bij je eigen wetenschappelijke vereniging een individueel verzoek tot accreditatie in te dienen.
